Your home should be a place that reflects your identity. If you look at pictures of the interior from magazines, Instagram, look books, or even Google Images, you’ll notice that they’re beautiful, but these spaces also don’t look lived in. They tend to lack that personality that helps in distinguishing the type of person who lives in that space. In order to truly make your space your space, you need to add personal touches to it.

Thankfully, adding a personal touch to your home, whether it be a house or an apartment, can be quite affordable. It’s definitely worth all of the effort as it ensures that you feel comfortable in your own home and it reflects who you are. It will also ensure that your guests are going to feel comfortable as well when they’re visiting. Whether you want to think outside the box or take it simple in reflecting your personality, here are some ways to add personal touches to your home!

Add some plants

The past couple of years have been good to plants, houseplants have been booming in popularity. They’re currently known as the new pet. Plants come in a variety of shapes, colors, sizes, and species. Whatever type of plant you’re wanting, chances are that there is a way to make it thrive in your home.

Plants also are wonderful for making a space feel so tranquil and serene as it does give a nice touch of nature into an indoor space. Where you choose houseplants or a nice bouquet, make sure to use live plants. Faux plants just don’t have the same look to them as real ones have.

Bring out some mementos

One of the best ways to make your home truly your home is by displaying your memories. This can be something such as bronze grave marker plaques of someone you loved who has recently passed (these are excellent for placing in gardens), but you can even include photographs, postcards, photo books, and even souvenirs from past trips.

These are all going to remind you of some of the greatest experiences and memories that you’ve once had. These are also wonderful conversation starters for whenever you have guests over. It gives you the chance to reminisce about the past while entertaining your guests with stories and answering their questions.

Lighting

Lighting is another way to really show off who you are, and it also helps in creating a certain atmosphere within your space as well. While it’s true that there are dos and don’ts of decorating, choosing the right lighting can reflect your personality while also helping out in putting emphasis on certain areas of the space. One great example would be the dining room. When it comes to dining rooms, this is supposed to be a calm area, so the lighting will be quite dim and the spotlight tends to be on the dining table.

You can reflect your personality by choosing certain lighting such as fixtures or lamps. Candles are also another fantastic example of lighting that gives a personal touch while also illuminating a small part of the space.

Scents

Yankee Candle, Homesick, Otherlands, and others are all loved for their wide variety of scented candles. If you’re someone who loves scents, then this is something to bring into your home.

Scents are a wonderful way to really make the place cozy and snuggle up with a blanket. There are plenty of varieties when it comes to scents whether it be candles, air freshener sprays, oil diffusers, or potpourri. Just get some scents that you enjoy and just let your whole space get filled by this scent.

You can fill your bed with different colors and designs of linen, throw pillows for your couch, table cloths, and even your curtains. Textiles come in a large variety of shapes, colors, designs, and sizes. Textiles are a major part of what makes a home comfortable, and they are wonderful for adding some comfort to the space too.
