One of the most awaited movies of 2019 is Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (or if you’re in the Philippines, January 2020, right after the Metro Manila Film Festival). This closes out the Skywalker Saga, spanning nine films and 42 years. With this level of excitement, it’s no surprise that brands would want to tie up with Lucasfilm to create all sorts of merch. TOMS is one of those and they created a line of shoes that celebrates the media franchise. I got the Darth Vader sneakers and here’s a short unboxing.
Okay, I know that unboxings are popularly done as videos but I’m still camera-shy so you’ll have to make do with a blog post!
The box is an unassuming white, with the logo of TOMS and Star Wars on top in shiny silver text. The side says “It is your destiny,” a line Darth Vader says in The Empire Strikes Back. I chose this because a large chunk of my wardrobe is black and I love villains. The other side of the box says TOMS in Aurebesh, the alphabet in the Star Wars universe. The attention detail is impressive.
Inside are the shoes, plus a dust bag emblazoned with comic panels featuring, you guessed it, Darth Vader.
The shoes itself are great. It’s made of leather, which makes it versatile enough to be dressed up or down. There are subtle touches to the character, such as the word Sith subtly embossed on the side and the silhouette of his mask embroidered on the back. The sole is my favorite since it’s red, a nod to Darth Vader’s lightsaber. It’s a great pop of color in the all-black body.
TOMS x Star Wars Shoe Collection
There are other designs in the TOMS and Stars Wars partnership. I was also eyeing the Stormtrooper sneakers, but white shoes stain so easily. If you’re not a fan of bad guys, there are also high-top sneakers inspired by Luke Skywalker’s Rebel pilot helmet in A New Hope, and one designed after Princess Leia’s snowsuit in The Empire Strikes Back.
The limited-edition line also features shoes in TOMS’ classic Alpargatas, with Chewbacca, Darth Vader, and storyboard-inspired prints. If you have kids, you’ll definitely enjoy letting them wear slip-ons with Yoda, Princess Leia, and R2-D2.
If you’re a fan of the Star Wars franchise, I suggest you get these shoes because I love mine so much!
