July means the start of the rainy season. It’s when we’re more careful to remember to bring our umbrellas, stop planning beach trips, and prepare our outfits that are gloom- and splash-friendly. The occasional rain is perfect for people like me who sweat a lot and I welcome this weather with open arms.
One of the things I look forward to during the rainy season is curling up in bed with a warm snack. I discovered something new and it’s Max’s Chicken Lomi, a decadent bowl perfect for cuddle weather.
Their version of the classic lomi is on overdrive. Each bowl is packed with chicken meat, liver, and chicken balls submerged in a thick and savory broth that I can slurp all day. To make it even more exciting, the Max’s Lomi is topped with crispy chicken skin. Yes, the same chicken skin that you can find on Max’s Fried Chicken. Surprisingly, there’s a lot of ingredients in one bowl so you can enjoy this for lunch or dinner. A steal considering it’s P160!
It’s great to enjoy in the restaurant (especially when paired with the fried chicken or their other dishes like the Tofu Sisig), but I think I’ll enjoy my next bowl in bed while watching Netflix, with the sound of the rain pattering outside.
