Want to Go to Singapore For Free? All You Need to Do is Sing!

Ever since I finished reading the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy (and fell in love with the film adaptation), I’ve been dreaming about visiting Singapore again. I’ve been there twice already but it seems there’s so much more to do than visit Gardens by the Bay, the Merlion, and Orchard Road.

If you caught the Singapore travel bug, too, you can win a trip to the Lion City because the Singapore Tourism Board launched the SINGapore Karaoke booth, where you can sing your heart out and possibly win tickets for two and four-star accommodations! The contest ran from October 19 to 21 at the Cortes De Las Palmas in Alabang Town Center, and the winners will be announced on October 25.

Those like me who can’t sing a single note watched performers sing their hits live, like Up Dharma Down, Donny and Hannah Pangilinan, Dane Hipolito, and Kali Vidanes.

The SINGapore Karaoke booth was launched worldwide in the Philippines before popping up elsewhere because it’s a known fact that Filipinos love to sing. The booth features songs from local and international artists who have performed or will be performing in Singapore. A performance that garners a score of 90% and up will earn a raffle entry to win two tickets to Singapore, while those who pick a song from any of the secret bonus artists can win a bonus prize of two concert tickets to the 2019 Formula One Singapore Grand Prix. There’s no word who will perform yet but past performers include Coldplay, Bon Jovi, Dua Lipa, The Chainsmokers, and Pharrell Williams.

The booth is the first of many upcoming consumer activities targeting the Philippine market, as part of the tourism board’s second leg of its “Passion Made Possible” brand campaign. The campaign aims to position Singapore as a place where tourists can discover new possibilities and pursue their passions, whether they’re a Foodie who likes to try new flavors, an Explorer who enjoys discovering different places and spaces, a Collector who likes to shop, a Progressor who innovates business, a Socialiser who comes alive at the nightlife scene, an Action Seeker who’s always chasing an adrenaline rush, or a Culture Shaper who immerses himself in arts and culture.

The karaoke booth is part of the Socialiser passion tribe, focusing on those who enjoy the energy of the nightlife and entertainment scene. Singapore is the perfect venue for them, as the city-state has a vibrant music and entertainment scene with indie gigs, international concerts, eclectic music festivals, raves, and jazz nights.

This year alone, Singapore will play host to the Neon Lights Festival in November and concerts from the world’s biggest names like Charlie Puth, Khalid, Mariah Carey, and The Weeknd from November to December.
