Art in the Park is one of my favorite events of the year. It’s the one day where people converge in a park (one of my favorite places to hang out in) to enjoy the fresh air and some good art from the country’s best artists. It’s a laidback affair compared to exhibit openings in galleries and museums, and even the hip Art Fair Philippines. It’s more affordable, too, as artworks are capped at P50,000.
This year’s Art in the Park was held again at the Jaime Velasquez Park in Salcedo Village, Makati. It was an extremely hot afternoon, but I braved the sweltering heat to get my dose of art.
Here are my top picks:
To combat the weather, Art in the Park partnered with Ginebra San Miguel for the GSM Premium Gin Cart, which offered handcrafted cocktails for attendees. For Art in the Park, bartenders prepared the Calamansi Surprise, Mango Paradise, Sweet Lemony Martini, and the Red Snapper. I tried the first three drinks and loved its refreshing twist. I love gin because it’s a versatile spirit that can be paired with anything.
An event like this wouldn’t be complete without selfies, OOTDs, and snaps of the artworks. To make the event more social, Globe Platinum installed free wi-fi across the venue, as well as a charging station for those who forgot their powerbanks. The brand also showcased their new products.
Art in the Park was held on April 2, 2017 at the Jaime Velasquez Park in Salcedo Village, Makati. It is organized by Philippine Art Events, Inc. for the benefit of the Museum Foundation of The Philippines, with support from Brgy. Bel-Air, MACEA, Alveo, Bank of The Philippine Islands, and Globe Platinum. Wooden panels courtesy of Art Edge. For more information, visit www.artinthepark.ph or www.facebook/artinthepark.
