I Tried Chowking’s Meatier and Saucier Chunky Asado Siopao, Here are My Thoughts

I was home during this year’s Lunar New Year so I made do by ordering boxes of tikoy and cooking them. Ideally, I would be in Binondo watching the celebration and eating at one of the many of the Chinese eateries in the district. If time didn’t permit, I would go to a Chinese restaurant somewhere and have my fill of dim sum.

The pandemic has forced me home, but I’m happy because I got to try Chowking’s Chunky Asado Siopao, which is now even meatier and saucier!

You can quickly tell that there’s an upgrade. The sweet and savory meat comes in bigger and meatier pork chunks, and there’s more of the roasted asado sauce. The filling reminded me of the pork buns from a certain restaurant import. Before you send me hate messages, I’m only talking about the filling and that I was simply reminded. Unlike those pork buns, Chowking’s asado chunks are encased in a fluffy steamed bun with a skincare routine. It’s so smooth and supple.

Another insight while trying it: I only noticed after polishing two buns that there wasn’t any sauce included. It turns out, you don’t even need it.

What I love about the Chowking Chunky Asado Siopao is that it’s affordable. It’s P39 each and there’s a 3-piece takeout box for only P115.
