One of my fondest memories of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is seeing the musical Mamma Mia! with my family. I’m a big fan of musicals, ABBA, and anything dripping in eleganza so I had a great time seeing the story unfold with my loved ones. Soon I’ll relive the memory because Mamma Mia! is returning to Manila and they just announced the cast!

Mamma Mia! is a jukebox musical featuring the music of Swedish band ABBA, and tells the story of Sophie, a young girl about to get married in the Greek island paradise she and her mother call home. She attempts to discover the identity of her father in time for her wedding and she invites the three men from her mother’s romantic past.
The musical features the top ABBA hits “Dancing Queen,” “Take A Chance On Me,” “The Winner Takes It All,” and of course, “Mamma Mia.”
Since its premiere in 1999, the show has been seen by more than 60 million people in 50 productions in 16 different languages. It is one of the longest-running shows on both Broadway and the West End.
In 2008, it was adapted into a film, starring Meryl Streep as Donna Sheridan. At the time of its release, it was the highest-grossing live-action musical film of all time. A sequel focusing on the life of Donna called Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again will be released worldwide this month.
