Sony Xperia XZ Premium’s Super Slow Motion is the Perfect Travel Companion

I love taking pictures when I travel. Everything seems more charming and exotic when I’m in another place. Go through my camera roll and you’ll see pictures of flowers, street signs, and cats sharing space with national landmarks. Even if I love taking pictures, I’m no photographer. I am aware that I treat my Sony A5000 like a point-and-shoot and I know nothing about technical stuff, but I’m happy with my gear and the photos I produce.

If I were to really upgrade my gear, I would get the Sony Xperia XZ Premium, a new smartphone that’s upgrading the mobile photography experience. It has the new Motion Eye camera system, which uses the same technology from the Sony Alpha and Cyber-shot cameras, which makes for professional-level photos with vivid colors.

One of the best features of the camera is the Predictive Capture, which automatically starts buffering images when it detects motion. So even before you click the button, the phone has already captured the best shot. This is perfect for those times when you’re in a bustling city like Hong Kong or Seoul where everything is moving at a frenetic pace.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium can also take clear photos in low-light conditions. I’ve always wanted to take skyline photos at night, but I could never adjust my camera to fully bring out the colors of the buildings. What a wasted opportunity at The Bund in Shanghai, which has skyscrapers and various architectural styles along one strip.

But the most interesting feature of the Sony Xperia XZ Premium is the super slow motion, which lets you capture videos at 960 frames per second. It’s the world’s first smartphone with this kind of feature, and videos can be slowed down four times slower than other smartphones. Now that’s dramatic! I can imagine using this to record the cherry blossoms in Kyoto or the crystal-clear waters in El Nido.

The best part of being an amateur photographer is taking a great shot and admiring it. The Sony Xperia XZ Premium has a 4K High Dynamic Range (HDR) range display, borrowed from the Sony BRAVIA television sets, which makes for immersive viewing in the palm of your hand.

These innovative features of the smartphone are matched by a gorgeous body. The exterior has a glass loop surface with a mirrored effect on the back (perfect for pre-selfies). The body is water-resistance and dust-proof, and is reinforced with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. No matter how rough the adventure is, this smartphone will surely survive.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is complemented by the super mid-ranger Xperia XA1 Ultra. The smartphone has a six-inch borderless design, a 23-megapixel main camera, and updates from last year’s successful XA models.

The front camera has 16 megapixels with Optical Image Stabilizer, a necessity when you’re taking selfies in transit or in the dark. It also has a Smart Selfie Flash to naturally illuminate your face. This I think is very important because I love to walk during travels, so I already look worn out in the middle of the afternoon. In Hanoi last year, I asked myself how celebrities always look great abroad. Maybe I should get this phone instead?

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is available for P45,490 with 12 months 0% installment. The smartphone comes in Deep Sea Black and Luminous Chrome. A third color, Bronze Pink, will be available at the end of July. Meanwhile, the Xperia XA1 Ultra is available in Rainbow White, Pink, Black, and Gold. The smartphones are now available in Sony Centers, Sony Mobile Stores, and authorized dealers nationwide.
