I absolutely love local products. Many of them are made with quality in mind, and yet are still affordable because they don’t need to spend on importing and marketing. However, it can be a hassle to buy because not many are distributed in major department stores or shops. You have to go to artisan fairs or specialty stores (many of which are in the north) to buy them.
Luckily, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has partnered with retail stores for Go Lokal!, a partnership that promotes products made by micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Their first partner is Robinsons Department Store, and the first concept store is open now in Robinsons Place Manila!
The Go Lokal! partnership is set to bring together a curated lineup of food, apparel, accessories, home decor, and gift items made from local brands. Now, I can find my favorite products, and discover new ones, in one place.
I visited the opening of the Go Lokal! concept store in Robinsons Place Manila and was blown away at how many local brands they carry.
Check out my favorites below:
Clothing & Accessories
One of my favorite brands from Robinsons’ Go Lokal! concept store is Lipi, a line of bags and shoes featuring local weaves. I am absolutely in love with weaves, and I’m thinking of going back to get these beautiful shoes.
Akaba has woven backpacks. They’re beautiful, too, but they’re not part of my color palette.
Abre has colorful woven bags, clutches, and mats.
Simoy ng Haraya has perfumes, soaps, and the intriguing poop drop.
Food & Drink
These cacao nibs made in the foothills of Mt. Isarog sound delicious. Also, cacao tea?!
Taro and kamote chips!
Chocolates from Hiraya!
Alcohol & Tobacco
Go Lokal! also has a healthy selection of liqeurs, like coffee and dulce de leche wines, and flavored lambanog (coconut wine).
Fruit flavored liquers.
The country’s first cigars are also available here.
Beautiful plates, coasters, and flatware in capiz. If Beauty and the Beast was set in the Philippines, the “Be Our Guest” number would be performed by plates and flatware in capiz. It’s such an elegant material.
These gorgeous T’boli napkin rings made from cast brass are such a necessary extravagance.
The Go Lokal! concept store is located at the Midtown wing of Robinsons Place Manila, right outside the department store. The best part? It will be a permanent space, and will be rolled out in more locations.
I can’t wait to go back and support my favorite local brands!
