Everyone knows I have a major sweet tooth, and that I find it impossible to end a meal without some kind of dessert. As summer is fast approaching (you can already feel its unwelcome entrance), one of the after-meal treats I’m looking forward to is ice cream and all its varieties! I can already imagine the sundaes, gelato, halo halo, and banana splits I will have once the heat wave rolls in.
Sometimes, I get sweet cravings at the most random moments, so I have a soft spot for establishments that serve treats on the go. One of my favorites is Jollibee, which has a great selection of sundaes, pies, and floats. Now, they’re adding a new item to their dessert menu: the Salted Caramel Choco Sundae!
Jollibee’s Salted Caramel Choco Sundae is a perfect blend of salty and sweet. The flavors complement each other well, from the versatility of the vanilla ice cream to the familiar flavor of the chocolate and the surprise hit from the salted caramel. I tried it today and fell in love with the three different tastes blending beautifully in my mouth!
Salted caramel traces its origin to Brittany, France, where salted butter caramels are enjoyed as a treat. It became a trend when Pierre Hermé, an inventive French pastry chef, created the salted caramel macaron in the late ’90s. It then appeared in upscale restaurants in New York City, high-end food magazines, and food shows, where it was touted as a premium and artisanal item.
The trend has a luxurious history, but I’m happy to report that Jollibee’s take on salted caramel is affordable. Starting March 1, 2017, the Jollibee Salted Caramel Choco Sundae will be available in all stores for dine-in, take out, and drive-thru transactions for only P29! It’s also available as a mini-sundae add-on with every value meal for only P20.
Suddenly the summer isn’t so bad!
